Friday's Foxes and Farewells

Fleet_foxes

I was hanging out at one of my favorite blogs this morning and came across their review of a great little out fit from the pacific northwest called Fleet Foxes (Sub Pop) who rocked a double bill with Blitzen Trapper at SF's Noise Pop festival (on now until ...) Fantastic stuff... give a listen to "Oliver James"  here . Thanks to AAD for the track.

Canadian Music Week is upon us once again and there's a metric ass ton of bands playing all across the city... full line up here.

Other musical news, the Coachella crew have announced an east coast gathering called All Points West taking place in August (8th-10th) which features a decent lineup and what, oh TWO NIGHTS of Radiohead headlining. Boo. Yeah. That's right, 2 posts in a row with Radiohead content. What? You got a problem with that? Yeah, I didn't think so...

ARTIST REMINDERS: Nathan Ota has a show starting this weekend called Everything But The Kitchen Sync starts Sunday at La Luz de Jesus gallery and runs through April 1. Ralph Steadman is donating 50 limited edition prints to benefit the first ever US production of PLAGUE and the MOONflower... read more here. Jeremiah Ketner has some new wooden figures that he's been hard at work on. Each figure is hand made and painted using acrylic paint.

And in sad farewell news... as of March 1st, the web browser Netscape will be defunct and no longer supported by anybody. Poor Netscape -  the 90's moved on and you didn't. Washington Post link here.

And here's a wicked graf video from some crew in Spain, throwing it up crazy fast, and MASSIVE to a train on a stop in the station.

Happy Friday Everyone!

Everything IS in it's right place and more...

O joy. There really isn't more pleasing than hearing that Radiohead is coming to your hometown, is there?  Oxford's finest are rolling through Toronto (according to several sources, except Radiohead's tour page funnily enough) on August 15th.  Their latest record In Rainbows (reviewed here), was lauded as not only a musical triumph in the eyes of critics and fans alike, but their self-release, pay-what-you-want model was huge success and proved to everyone that if you want to get your music to the people, you can do so without a record company. Here's a couple tracks from the latest album and a video of them performing a Smiths song (Headmaster Ritual)!  DOUBLE AWESOME!

ARTIST REMINDERS: Audrey Kawasaki's show runs until Friday at the Copro Nason gallery in Santa Monica, check it out. Amy Sol (et al) show finishes tonight at Gallery 1988 SF. PlayDead Cult are doing a a really cool show here in Toronto tomorrow night at Shanghai Cowgirl on Queen West. They're using guitars as the medium in a show they've partnered up with Gibson for. Awesome!

Up next our new game review section with our resident game expert Del...

What's the Delio?: Assassin's Creed

Hi Folks!  Today I'll be reviewing a game that’s been out for a while now. It was on the top of every 13-year-olds Christmas lists. I'm not talking about Rock Band, (I'm sure I'll have a couple things to say about that later on.) The game I'm referring to is Assassins Creed...oh yeah.

Freebass will rock your face off. Guaranteed.

1273023212730233large

3 bass players in one band? Sounds ludicrous right? Wrong. Lest we forget one of the monoliths of rock, a little band called Spinal Tap... yeah, you're welcome. Well, there's a new kid on the block and he means business. The new kid is called FreeBass and it's made up of 3 bass giants from the past 30 years.

Peter Hook, Mani and Andy Rourke, all Mancunians by nature and all responsible for shaping brit pop and indie rock for the scores of bands that came after them. These gents got their humble starts in a few bands you might have heard of - Joy division/New Order, The Stone roses and The Smiths. Daaaaaamn.

These blokes have been talking about this project for approximately 8 years and are looking to pull the trigger on it, with a number of cameo vocals on the album from Billy Corgan, Ian Brown, Liam Gallagher and Tim Burgess along with full time lead vocalist, Gary Briggs of Haven.  Hope to see something from these guys real soon...and they'd better cover Big Bottom to have any street cred.
