The second best table you've ever seen...

Nes_table

Ok, so admittedly we get a little excited around here about furniture, but this table is certified bad ass. I'm talkin'  BAAAAD ASS! It's a giant f**king NES controller, that's mostly a table, but it's also mostly a f**king GIANT controller that works.

THAT WORKS!

I wish I had a giant living room and a giant TV to play it on. Then again I'd probably have a giant girlfriend nagging to stop playing my giant gaming system...Giantly.

a little of this, a little of that...

We released some great new skins this week - this time 3 images from So Cal artist Jen Lobo. Jen, a one time student of GelaSkins own Bob Dob, has an amazing talent for anthropomorphizing the creatures she paints, but you don't need me to tell you that, just look at them!

In other artist related news, I found a cool interview with one of our Bay Area artists, surrealist MARS-1. You can read the interview here.

I'm sure you know by now if you read this blog that Radiohead are the preferred choice for praise in the music column and well, some things never change. Oxford's finest hit the road this week to start their arduous journey of melting faces and rocking souls on their first of a two part North American tour that is divided by a European section in July. I've vigorously scoured the globe You Tube to bring you the best that bootleg videos have to offer from the recent West Palm Beach and Tampa shows. Can't wait to see these glorious bastards at the Molson Amphitheater later this summer.

Bill's idea?

Good lord.

I thought I'd seen enough ridiculous for one day...and then there was this.

This was supposed to be an internal video for Microsoft Vista's SP1 and boy howdy, is it awesome. It's really straddling that hairy line between being "so bad, it's goddamn incredible!" and "Jesus, this is shittiest thing I've ever witnessed, someone carve out my eyes....PLEASE!"

I'll let you decide.

iTunes beats Wal-Mart, announces candidacy for President

I can almost hear Steve "I'm the King" Jobs cackling manically after the recent news that iTunes store is now the the number one music retailer in the US. The online digital music store surpassed the behemoth Wal-Mart in overall music sales for the months of February and March. It seems that people are still buying more CD's on a whole, but iTunes is raking in the larger slice of cheese apparently. It's nice to see Wal-Mart dethroned, but I'm sure they'll make up for the loss in sales by squashing some smaller foreign country or cutting into their employees health care plan. YAY!

This is how Steve laughs.

Jamie Lidell is Jim. Not to mention frickin' hilarious! He's posted part one of a three part video series leading up to his album release with some Hollywood hijinks. "Jim" is slated for release on April 24th and promises to be some bad bad funk. Yeah, like 80's BAD, you know, head spins and 'fresh' Adidas. This man can do no wrong in my eyes...

When the dog bites, when the bee stings...

Cold

Ok, so I feel terrible today (thanks common cold! ) so I'm going to post a few things that are comforting some how. Hopefully this will have some cathartic effect and I'll be back in the saddle ASAP...

1) Drumming: I can't drum. Ok, that's a lie, I can play a hand drum a little, but put me on a kit and it's a disaster, but I love listening to them. I took in the Festival of Drums in Queen's Park last summer, which approximately rocked, but I caught a tabla player performing on a drum designed in Switzerland that's only been around for 8 or so years. This drum is part of the steel drum family so it's very melodic, but is played with hands instead of mallets. I found a great video of a chap playing one... view it here. Just awesome...Oh and here's a link to something I also can't do.

2)Laughing and Food: Two of my very favorite things in the world and here's a few of places that you can enjoy both at the same time...

986 reviews of for Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 Gallon, 128fl Oz  - What I find odd is that Amazon sells milk? Is that weird or is it just me?

Steve, Don't Eat It! is a section of the hilarious blog The Sneeze and is seriously one of the funniest things I've ever read. Ever. Whatever, I know Maddox is funny, but this is hernia-inducing funny.  I found this gem about 3 years ago and go back to re-read this section every month or two and still end up crying and unable to speak for minutes afterwards because I'm laughing so hard. If you don't laugh at this, it means you've expired, you're deceased, dead. Or you're a ginger kid and have no soul.

Ok, this isn't so much funny as it is just awesome. Maple and Bacon Lollipops.

Muffins!

3) Animation: I'm a sucker for cool, or interesting animation and this particular piece I saw over 10 years ago and was shown to me by a buddy in Film school when we were in college and I still really just love this. It's called Animando and was produced by the phenomenal National Film Board of Canada in 1987. There's TONS of amazing videos on their site, so check it out if you like this...

Hope you feel better than I...

See you tomorrow..

Wookin' pa nub in aww de wong pwaces...

Random Strangeness...go.

Elfgirl

This girl wants a guy that looks like Link from the Legend of Zelda for a soul mate, and what better place to find one than on Craig's List! Good God. This pains me that people are starting to look to video game characters as mates. I think she spent too much time online in dark chat rooms listening to guys tell her that it's at least 8 bits, 9 and a half if they get really excited.  Maybe I'll see if I can't buy myself a Lara Croft lookalike on Ebay. Via Geekologie.

I know it's a couple years old but goddamn this video is funny - Thanks Del!. Monty Python meets George Lucas - Hilarious!

David Choe has been killing the streets of London with his dope style graf. Love it!

Choelond

Via Wooster Collective.

This little gem was shown to me yesterday and I laughed so hard I almost cried. I want these 2 guys in the video to come and play a party at my house where people drink too much and pretend to be ironic by wearing place mats as scarves and other stupid en vogue accoutrement that seem to be sweeping tragically hip scenesters.

Ok Music...

Jamie Lidell is back and once again he's bringing the nasty funkedelia, which in and of itself is somewhat of a miracle considering he's white and British. I kid of course, but his new record "Jim" is slated for release at the end of april and has already revealed some smooth goodness.  Check the awesome grooves of "A Little Bit of Feel Good" below.

Canadian Music Week started last night and, seriously there's hundreds of bands playing throughout the city over the next 3-4 days.  Here's my pick for show of the festival. D Tour: A Tenacious Documentary will also be making it's Canadian debut with a Q and A featuring Kyle Gass afterwards. RAGE KAGE!

Cat Power's latest effort "Jukebox" has been in heavy rotation here at GelaSkins HQ and I think it's truly the first great album of 2008. If you haven't checked it out yet,do and here's a snippet from it.

Who is the Knitta in charge over here, who is the Knitta in charge?

Picture_3

Have you ever wondered why fire hydrants don't have knitted woolen hats and then had the shit slapped out of you for asking such an inane question? Well now it's your time to do the slappin'! Recent developments in the mentality of street vandals have lead to a new, warmer wave of crime... I'm talking 'bout a crew of bad ass knittas here, ya heard?

Knitta Please
is a roving band thugs, hell bent on keeping street fixtures warm at any cost. Wanted in 3 states for reckless slip stitching, these 5 needle toting ruffians have really pulled the wool over the eyes over local authorities in their hood of Houston, TX area.

Officer Sam Squamtch of the local constabulary said  " These is some real dangerous knittas, you know?

Left Coas' Knittas beware!

Interview with Craola...

Greg 'Craola' Simkins just wrapped up his first solo show, IMA MONSTA,  at Gallery Nineteen Eight Eight in LA. He was interviewed at his home by another great artist, Thomas Han. Click on the image below to check out the interview. If you look closely when they are in Greg's studio, you can see his iPod, wrapped in the 'Craotek' skin that he did for us.
